Friday, July 29, 2016 was one for the books. The USA Track and Field Olympic team was on site at Prairie View A&M University to break in our newly completed Track & Field Complex in order to prepare for their upcoming trip to the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics. “It was an amazing opportunity to see these incredible athletes in action, and to have them validate our track as meeting their typical IAAF ideals for a facility was such an honor! From the beginning we knew that this was a primary goal for Coach Williams and Coach Clay, PVAMU Athletics, and the University, and to see it through to this point is very rewarding,” says Lauren Simpson, Project Coordinator for BRW Architects. Star studded athletes present on Friday included Justin Gatlin, Nia Ali, Allyson Felix, Jeff Henderson, and Michael Tinsley, as well as many others.
Early on in the project, Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas was identified as an ideal location for training camp due to its similar climate to what the athletes will experience in Brazil, the brand new complex being built to IAAF standards, its remote location away from the public, campus amenities, and the proximity to an international airport. When asked about the response from the USA Track and Field Team on Friday, PVAMU head Women’s Track and Field Coach Angela Williams said “So far every Olympic athlete has been incredibly pleased. It is an amazing facility for these athletes at the highest level. ” Now all that’s left to do is cheer these athletes on as they begin competing on August 12, 2016!
