Thelma Richardson Elementary School in Dallas has been awarded two Criteria Awards in the 2014 TASA/TASB Awards program. The Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) and the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) awards competition is the largest educational architecture event in the state of Texas. BRW Architects and Dallas ISD received two awards for the new CHPS designed elementary school, the Innovation Citation and the Sustainability Citation for excellence in educational design. The project was specifically recognized for positively impacting its community in the following comments from the six person jury:
Innovation Award:
“Unique use of materials, courtyard entrance, and simple floor plan that maximizes instructional opportunities”
Sustainable Citation:
“Sustainable features including certifications and recycled materials are used as teaching tools through graphics and displays”
The projects were showcased in Houston at the 2014 TASA/TASB Convention Exhibit of School Architecture and will also be celebrated at the upcoming TASA Mid Winter Convention in Austin, in January 2015. Congratulations to Dallas ISD and the BRW Architects education team!
